Great Britains Gadirova Twins Place Sixth And Seventh

Jade Carey Wins First Olympic Medal with Gold in Floor Exercise

Great Britain's Gadirova Twins Place Sixth and Seventh

On Monday, 21-year-old Jade Carey earned her first Olympic medal with a gold medal performance in the women's floor final at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo. Carey's win marks the first gold medal for the United States in the women's floor exercise since Carly Patterson's victory in 2004.

Competing alongside Carey, Great Britain's Jessica Gadirova finished sixth and her twin sister Jennifer placed seventh in the final. Viktoriia Listunova of the ROC took home the silver medal and Mai Murakami of Japan won the bronze.

The women's floor exercise final was the last event of the artistic gymnastics competition at the Tokyo Olympics. The event was held over two days, with qualification taking place on July 25th and the final on August 2nd.

Carey's gold medal is a major accomplishment for the gymnast, who has struggled with injuries throughout her career. She missed the 2019 World Championships due to a back injury and was forced to withdraw from the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials with a foot injury.

Despite the setbacks, Carey persevered and made her Olympic debut in Tokyo. She qualified for the floor exercise final in second place and delivered a stunning performance in the final to earn the gold medal.
