Instagram Suffers Major Outage
Users Unable to Log In or View Photos
Social media platform Instagram experienced a major outage on Sunday night, leaving millions of users unable to log in or access their accounts. The service was down for several hours before being restored just before midnight.
The outage began at around 7:30 p.m. EST (23:30 GMT), and users quickly began flooding social media with reports of the issue. Many users were greeted with error messages when they tried to log in, while others were able to access their accounts but were unable to see any photos or videos.
Instagram has not yet released any details on what caused the outage, but the company said in a tweet that it was "aware of an issue affecting people's ability to access Instagram." It added that it was "working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible." The outage comes just a few weeks after Instagram rolled out a major update to its app. The update introduced a number of new features, including the ability to share stories with friends who don't follow you and the ability to leave voice messages on direct messages.
The outage is the latest in a series of technical issues that have plagued Instagram in recent months. In September, the company was forced to shut down the app for several hours after a bug caused it to crash for many users.
